| Did they invent heavy metal? Well they were certainly responsible for the trappings, images, and even the excesses that came to be known as that much-revered and much-hated musical form. They did make it sound good though, thunderous volume, sledgehammer beats and edge-of-mayhem arrangements all combined with the bands finesse to make them the most influential and successful heavy-metal pioneer. They took the white boy blues to its wildest extremes! After touring the U.S. in early 1969, opening for Vanilla Fudge, their first album was released in February and within two months had reached Billboard’s Top 10. Led Zeppelin II reached #1 two months after its release and since then every album of new material has gone platinum!
