| In the mid-'70s, the Ramones shaped the sound of punk rock in New York with simple, fast songs, deadpan lyrics, no solos, and an impenetrable wall of guitar chords. Formed in 1974 with the original lineup of Joey on drums, Dee Dee sharing guitar with Johnny and Tommy as manager, their name and pseudonym came via Paul McCartney, who had briefly called himself Paul Ramon back when the Beatles were the Silver Beatles. By cutting rock & roll down to its bare essentials, four chords, a simple, catchy melody and irresistibly inane lyrics, the Ramones created something that was rooted in early '60s, pre-Beatles rock & roll and pop but sounded revolutionary, allowing them to become the leaders of the emerging New York punk rock scene. Their classic logo makes for a cult T-Shirt which, like their music, will never go out of fashion making our huge range of official tees a must but for any music fan. |
