| David Bowie is rock’s foremost futurist. A genre-bending pioneer, chameleon, and transformer, throughout his solo career and in his alliances with other artists, he has positioned himself on the cutting edge of rock and roll and has sold an estimated 196 million album, putting him among the ten best-selling acts in UK pop history. A true musical legend, he first caught the eye and ear of the public in 1969, when his space-age mini-melodrama "Space Oddity" reached the top five of the UK singles chart. He then went on to redefine glam rock with his ambiguously sexy Ziggy Stardust, a persona which made him an international star.
